Lighting is a joy obsession and job so I am a little biased. Light is important to how we interpret the world around us and I delight in being a provider and manipulator of it. My style has been described as colourful and bold which I am happy to repeat. Click here to view an essay on my personal aesthetic submitted as part of my Masters program. One of my students at Chico asked me as I left what advice I had for him, I repeat here some of what I said and what I believe are my little reminders about how to light a production well.I am often asked about doing a Masters in Lighting in the US, here is an article I sent to the Association of Lighting Designers for their focus magazine.
As an employee of The University of Leeds which is a "research led" university I have had to develop my interests, obsessions, curiousity and art into Research.
Interests include:
May 2005 saw me give two papers at conferences, One on Media servers / projection at the FIRT/IFTR Scenography conference in Amsterdam, the second on at Showlight in Munich entitled "Lighting designs: how they change from venue to venue, the extent of the change, and why they change after the production period.".
There is a page of lighting resources which have inspired me or are useful here.
